What “on the day” stationery do I need on my wedding day?

This week we will be looking at what “On the day” wedding stationery you may want. So what is on the day stationery? We know about invites, save the dates, RSVP’s but what about stationery and signage should we be looking at for the big day!

Firstly we will discuss the
CEREMONY
The stationery you will likely need here is either and order of service / wedding mass booklet or order of ceremony. It is essentially a booklet or sheet that explains what is happens during the wedding ceremony and perhaps who is doing readings, title of readings, songs, who are the bridesmaids & groomsmen, page boys and flower girls.
The date, location, your names allow these to also be a really nice keepsake for your friends and family.
Then there is signage for the ceremony and may include directions to church, carparks etc especially if off the main road or hard to find. These signs can be simple or something beautiful that ties in with the overall stationery theme of your wedding.
Some other signage could include welcome signs to welcome guests either to the hotel or wedding ceremony reception. Another piece of signage you may like for your wedding ceremony is something to let your guests know where to sit. Pinterest is a great resource to find cute signs like “choose a seat not a side” and other similar sayings. If you see the perfect one for you we can create the same but also tie it in with your overall stationery theme. These signs bring a little bit of personality to the day. We have had quite a few couples have signs that will ask their guests to refrain from posting photos of the big day on social media until the evening. A lot of these signs are by no means necessary but they can add a little bit extra to your big if from helping guests find the location to allowing your photos of the wedding to be the 1st posted for friends and family that weren’t there on the day.
Order of the day signs or cards can guide your guests to give them more knowledge of the day. The more the guests know, the more they will relax so these can help your guests to enjoy themselves. This can be a large poster on an easel or a smaller individual A5 that would feature simple things like Ceremony – 1pm Drinks Reception 4pm Dinner – 6pm Get Your Dancing Shoes On – 9pm
Dinner is an important one as when people have an idea of when they will be fed they will usually be happier and more relaxed.
Place names, Table plans, Table Name Cards, Menus…..
The place names are simply a small card with guests names on them and placed where they are sitting. These can be quite plain or we can keep them with the same design theme as the rest of the stationery. These guest place setting cards can not only help your guests find their seat but also to ensure they receive the correct meal especially if they have any special dietary requirements.
Next up table plans and table names look at the large overall table plan and find which table they have been assigned to. This helps minimise confusion with so many guests entering around the same time looking for their name and seat. The table name cards are usually printed A5 and work in conjunction with the overall table plan to let guests know which table is which. These are traditional numbers 1-15 or how many tables you will have. However we have had couples get quite creative and choose to name their tables everything from TV shows, movies, favourite cities, gins, bands and much more… We even had vinyl records with the name of their 12 favourite bands as the table names. These matched in with the overall music them of the table plan at the front of the reception room. We can personalise the table plans and table names to whatever you prefer. Its your day after all.
A lesser know option is an escort card, which is a card with each guest’s name on it. On the back it will show them which table and seat number they are sitting at. These are big in the US more so but are becoming more popular in Ireland and the UK with us seeing more interest over the last year or two.
Now we discuss wedding menus. These are optional and you don’t always need them but it is nice to let your guests know what is for dinner and if you want to keep the overall stationery theme the menus can be designed to match and will look a lot nicer than the basic page a lot of venues with use if the supply them for you for free.
Another piece of on the day signage you should consider is for the gift and card table if you are having one. Guests will no doubt have brought you a present or have a card and they will want to know where to put it. Now this might be out during the drinks reception as well as guests will want to place ot somewhere as they will not want to be carrying it around throughout the whole day, so we suggest you make it visible and there is a sign so guests know where they can place it, that is safe and they don’t have to lug it around with them all day.
That, I think covers most of the items you may want on the day of your wedding, however if you’ve got some added elements that you’re adding to your day you may want some more forms of signage just to make the experience really smooth for your guests. Adding bespoke stationery and signage can really make the day more personal. We hope we have helped you and you’ve found this blog useful.
